Close Range Photogrammetry

The class on Close Range Photogrammetry deals with the mathematical foundations, sensor technology, modern measuring systems and applications.

In the exercises on Close Range Photogrammetry students learn the necessary steps for the photogrammetric reconstruction of a building. This includes planning, taking the pictures and photogrammetric processing.

For the task of planning we follow the recommendations of CIPA. They provide a simple set of rules on how to take images of a building, where to position your camera, how many images to take, what to record, etc.

After the students have chosen the building, they wish to reconstruct, they are handed out a digital still video camera, e.g. our Kodak DC 265, and they are ready to take the pictures.

Animation2The students learn how to use a photogrammetric software package to process the images. Currently we use PhotoModeler, which is a very simple to use tool. The result of the processing is a 3D model of the building with facade textures which can be exported, e.g. to VRML.
